Togo’s under-20 national team faces an uphill battle to qualify for the third and final round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a disappointing (0-2) loss at home to Morocco’s Lionceaux in the first leg.
The return leg is scheduled for May 25 in Morocco, where the Togolese team will need a significant turnaround to secure qualification. Interestingly, while the first leg was officiated by a Tunisian refereeing team, the return leg will be overseen by four Nigerian officials.
Ferdinand Udoh Aniete will serve as the center referee, supported by his compatriots Temitope Orowole Azeez and Robert Aundugh as the first and second assistants, respectively. Benjamin Ekabatiem will be the table referee, while Mauritanian Massa Diarra will act as the match commissioner.
The designation of Nigerian officials for the return leg has not been well-received by the Togolese public, who expressed dissatisfaction with the decisions made by the Tunisian quartet during the first leg. Criticism was particularly aimed at the penalty awarded to the Moroccans for their second goal.
