Egyptian football revolution begins as clubs partner with investors to boost competitiveness
Egyptian football has taken a major step towards a new era of professional management after the Ministry of Youth and Sports launched an initiative to transform popular clubs into financially sustainable football institutions.
The move focuses on establishing specialised companies to manage and invest in football activities, as Egypt seeks to maximise the value of its sporting assets and create a stronger foundation for long-term development.
The initiative follows directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to support popular clubs, improve sports investment and modernise the country’s football structure.
Two major partnerships announced
Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy witnessed the signing of two memoranda of understanding aimed at creating sports services companies that will oversee football operations and investment.
The agreements involved:
- Al Sharqia Sports Club and ENPPI Club
- Suez National Team Club and Petrojet Club
The partnerships are expected to improve technical and administrative efficiency, increase financial stability and enhance the ability of clubs to compete at higher levels.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ahmed Diab, President of the Egyptian Professional Clubs Association and Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee in the Senate.
Focus on financial sustainability
Minister Ashraf Sobhy said the agreements represent an important step towards implementing Egypt’s vision of developing the sports sector through professional management.
He highlighted that creating football companies would help clubs move towards more sustainable financial models while reducing dependence on traditional sources of funding.
The minister also praised the cooperation of the Egyptian Football Association, led by Hani Abu Rida, and confirmed that the Ministry would continue providing technical and legal support to clubs during the establishment of sports companies.
A new approach to club management
Ahmed Diab described the agreements as a significant development in Egyptian football, saying they reflect a serious effort to maximise available resources and improve clubs both technically and economically.
The memorandum between Suez National Team and Petrojet was signed by Suez National Team president Moataz Selim and Petrojet president Sameh Mabrouk.
The agreement between Al Sharqia and ENPPI was signed by ENPPI president Ayman El Shereei and Al Sharqia president Dr Hamdi Marzouk.
Al Sharqia and ENPPI partnership outlines future model
Reports indicate that the cooperation between Al Sharqia and ENPPI could lead to the creation of a new company called “Al-Sharqia Enppi Football”, with ENPPI expected to hold a 51% stake while Al Sharqia would own 49%.
The project reportedly includes preparations for the Zagazig University Stadium or Zagazig Stadium to host the team’s matches in the Egyptian Premier League.
Under the proposed structure, Al Sharqia’s football licence in the second division would be suspended, while the club’s other sporting activities would continue under its original identity.
A technical committee will also assess current players from both the senior team and youth ranks to determine those who will form part of the new football project.
A turning point for Egyptian football
The four clubs involved have welcomed the initiative, describing it as the beginning of a new phase of cooperation and investment.
The establishment of football companies is expected to create a more professional operating model, improve competitiveness and contribute to the wider development of Egyptian football.
As African football continues to move towards stronger commercial structures, Egypt’s latest reforms could represent a significant shift in how traditional clubs are managed and developed.
