Egyptian FA moves swiftly to block Zamalek signings over debt trouble
In a move shaking Egyptian football, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has halted Zamalek SC’s player registration over unpaid debts, signaling a serious standoff between the league giants and the governing body.
As reported by Kooora, the EFA made the decision after a bounced check from Zamalek failed to cover part of the club’s outstanding obligations. “There is a crisis between Zamalek and the Football Association regarding the club’s overdue debts,” the source told Kooora.
This suspension means Zamalek cannot register new players until the financial issues are resolved, an alarming development just weeks before the new season.
The situation escalated when the bank declined to process the club’s payment due to insufficient funds. With players still owed wages from last season, and Egypt Cup bonuses pending, Zamalek’s management faces growing pressure.
Club officials are expected to meet urgently in the coming hours to find a solution. They had earlier promised to settle dues before the end of this week, but the latest blow from the EFA raises new questions about the club’s financial health and leadership.
