Egypt vs Saudi Arabia friendly moved to Jeddah amid Iran war tensions
Rising military tensions in the Middle East have begun to affect the sporting calendar, with the ongoing conflict involving Iran prompting a change in plans for the upcoming international football friendly between Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
Due to the unstable security situation in the region, organisers have decided to relocate the match to a different venue as a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding players, officials, and supporters.
The encounter had originally been scheduled to take place this March in Qatar as part of a football festival that was expected to feature several high-profile matches. However, the ongoing conflict forced the cancellation of a number of fixtures linked to the event.
According to the Saudi newspaper Al‑Riyadh, the Egypt–Saudi Arabia clash will now be played in Jeddah on March 27 instead of Qatar, following the latest developments in the region.
The report added that the Saudi national team, widely known as Al-Akhdar, will travel to Belgrade in Serbia for their second friendly match during the current international window, which is scheduled to take place on March 31.
The ongoing conflict has already led to the postponement and cancellation of several sporting events across the region, disrupting the schedules of clubs and national teams as organisers continue to monitor the evolving situation.
