Egypt’s preparations for the World Cup have been clouded by injury concerns after Islam Issa and Mohamed Hany picked up knocks in the goalless draw against Spain at RCDE Stadium.

National team doctor Mohamed Abou El-Ela confirmed that both players will undergo medical scans to assess the extent of their injuries following the friendly encounter.

Winger Issa, 30, suffered a knee sprain during the match and was taken to hospital for further evaluation.

He was forced off in the 65th minute after a challenge with Spain midfielder Fermín López.

Defender Hany, also 30, sustained a wrist injury but played through the pain to complete the match. He is also set for further medical checks.

The injury setbacks come despite a positive start to Egypt’s training camp, which began with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.

The Pharaohs will compete in Group G at the World Cup alongside Iran, Belgium, and New Zealand, while Spain are drawn in Group H with Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.
