The Egyptian Football Association has confirmed Helmy Toulan as head coach of the Egypt B team for the upcoming Arab Cup in Qatar, set for December 1–18, 2025.
The move comes as the national first team, under Hossam Hassan, opts out of the tournament to focus on African Cup of Nations preparations.
Toulan, 75, brings decades of experience to the role, including stints with several top-tier Egyptian clubs and a 2013 Egypt Cup win with Zamalek. His appointment was backed by the EFA’s technical committee and approved by federation president Hani Abu Reda.
“The committee proposed my name and the president approved it,” Toulan told a local radio station.
He noted that time constraints and his coaching history influenced the decision, and added that the entire technical staff will serve without pay. Supporting Toulan will be Mamdouh Al-Mohammadi and Mohamed Nour as general coaches, Ahmed Hassan as team manager, and Essam Al-Hadary as goalkeeping coach.
Egypt finished fourth in the last edition of the Arab Cup. The tournament draw will be held Sunday in Doha.
