Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is set to rejoin the national team camp ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 clash against Belgium, following a swift medical trip to Saudi Arabia.

The Al-Ahli shot-stopper had travelled to Jeddah for detailed medical examinations after picking up an injury during Senegal’s group-stage match against Norway.

Injury Assessment in Saudi Arabia

Mendy’s injury occurred during Senegal’s second group match, forcing him to miss their final group fixture against Iraq, which the Lions of Teranga won convincingly 5-0.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Mendy completed a demanding 30-hour round trip as part of the medical process linked to his Saudi club Al-Ahli.

The checks were carried out to assess the severity of a knee issue, with both club and national team closely monitoring his recovery.

Return to National Team Camp

Despite the injury concern, Mendy is expected to return to Senegal’s World Cup camp on Tuesday as preparations continue for the knockout-stage match against Belgium.

Reports suggest that the goalkeeper was eager to travel quickly so he could remain connected with the squad and potentially witness the team’s Round of 32 encounter.

Hope of Playing Further in the Tournament

While his immediate availability remains uncertain, Mendy is still hopeful of returning to action later in the tournament if Senegal progress beyond the Round of 32.

The Senegalese Football Federation is expected to reassess his condition upon his return to camp before making any final decision regarding his involvement against Belgium.

For now, Senegal will continue their preparations with cautious optimism as they await further updates on one of their most important players heading into the knockout stage.
