Destiny Udogie Juventus move talk sends Tottenham into transfer panic

Interest from Juventus in Destiny Udogie has created an early summer dilemma for Tottenham Hotspur, with the North London side determined to resist approaches for the highly rated defender.

The 23-year-old left-back, signed from Udinese in 2022, is once again attracting attention from Serie A, with a return to Italy emerging as a live possibility after a challenging campaign in England.

Tottenham endured a turbulent season in which they flirted with relegation danger, and Udogie’s rhythm was disrupted by injuries and inconsistent selection.

Despite the external interest, Spurs are not actively considering a sale. Club sources indicate that Udogie is not on the list of players earmarked for departure, underlining the importance attached to him in their long-term rebuild.

Injury-hit season raises questions but Spurs remain firm

Udogie’s second full season in the Premier League was shaped by setbacks rather than continuity. Fitness issues and tactical reshuffles meant he struggled to maintain a settled role, though internal assessments remain positive about his long-term development.

The defender’s profile, combining pace, technical quality and attacking thrust from left-back, continues to fit into Tottenham’s broader defensive planning. Even as uncertainty surrounds several squad members, Udogie is viewed internally as a key asset rather than a dispensable option.

His contract, which runs until 2030, places Tottenham in a strong negotiating position, and any potential suitors would likely need to meet a valuation in the region of £40 million to £50 million, a significant increase on the initial £15 million fee that could eventually rise to £20 million.

Juventus testing waters amid wider defensive shake-up

Juventus have previously tracked Udogie’s progress and are now believed to be reassessing his availability as they look to strengthen their left-sided defensive options. While no formal bid has been made, contacts have reportedly been initiated to gauge whether a move could be viable this summer.

At the same time, Tottenham’s squad is undergoing broader evaluation under Roberto De Zerbi, who has been in discussions with the club hierarchy over squad restructuring following a disappointing campaign.

Several defensive decisions are expected to define the window. João Palhinha, currently on loan from Sporting Lisbon, is awaiting a decision on a permanent transfer, though renewed interest from his former club has complicated proceedings.

On the right side, Pedro Porro has attracted attention from Manchester City, although Tottenham could instead seek to secure his long-term future with a new contract if he remains part of the project.

Defensive uncertainty drives Spurs’ transfer strategy

Elsewhere in defence, changes are anticipated. Cristian Romero is being linked with a potential exit, while Radu Drăgușin is understood to be open to exploring new opportunities. In goal, Guglielmo Vicario has also been linked with a possible move to Inter Milan.

Despite the uncertainty, Spurs are simultaneously working on incoming reinforcements. Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi of AFC Bournemouth and Liverpool’s Andy Robertson of Liverpool F.C. are among the names being considered as part of a wider defensive rebuild.
