Dani Olmo seeks Barcelona breakthrough after seven-month scoring drought

Dani Olmo is searching for a goal to end a lengthy barren spell at Barcelona, despite continuing to create chances and contribute in other areas of the pitch.

The Spain international has not scored for the club since 15 March, when he found the net against Sevilla. Since then, he has played 22 matches for Barcelona without adding to his tally.

Olmo’s first season at Barcelona brought 12 goals, while he scored eight last season. Although he is not a natural goalscorer and that is not his primary role, he has consistently shown an ability to arrive in dangerous positions.

According to Sport, the 28-year-old is currently compensating for his lack of goals with his creativity. He has provided three assists this season, while his vision, ball recoveries and movement have helped team-mates find space.

However, Olmo needs to score again to ease the pressure of being unable to celebrate a goal of his own. He is continuing to create and take opportunities, with his next step being to rediscover his touch in front of goal.

He came close during Saturday’s match against Getafe, when he attempted two shots. One was on target, but Getafe goalkeeper David Soria made an outstanding save to deny him.

Olmo has taken 12 shots in total this season, including five during Barcelona’s Champions League match against Feyenoord. Five of his efforts overall have been on target.

A wait that began against Sevilla

Olmo’s most recent Barcelona goal came on 15 March against Sevilla. He ran towards goal after receiving a pass from Marc Bernal before sending a low right-footed shot into the net.

He celebrated with evident happiness after scoring Barcelona’s third goal in a 5-2 victory. He is now hoping to experience that feeling again after a run of 22 appearances for the Catalan club without scoring.

The drought has also continued with Spain. Olmo has scored 12 goals in 61 appearances for the national team and remains a trusted player for manager Luis de la Fuente.

His last Spain goal came on 18 November 2025 in a World Cup qualifier against Turkey at La Cartuja. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with Olmo scoring after receiving a pass from Marc Cucurella.

Since then, he has continued to provide assists for Spain, taking his total to six during that period.

Olmo’s next opportunity to end the run will come on Tuesday, when Barcelona face Galatasaray in the Champions League. His most recent European goal for Barcelona came on 21 January this year in Prague.
