Senegalese midfielder Assane Diao will be out of action for at least five weeks after sustaining a foot injury, his club Como 1907 has confirmed.

The 19-year-old, who had only just returned from a previous setback, picked up the injury during a training session.

Medical examinations revealed a fissure in the shaft of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.

“Como 1907 announces that, during a training session, footballer Assane Diao sustained an injury. Medical tests revealed a fissure in the shaft of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot,” Como said in a statement.

“After consulting Professor Neik Van Dijk, a specialist in foot surgery, the decision was made to proceed with conservative treatment.

“The recovery time will depend on how the injury progresses, but it is expected to be around five weeks.”

Diao had already missed the last five games of the 2024/25 season due to an earlier injury.

He joined Como during the January 2025 transfer window and quickly established himself as a key player, registering eight goals and an assist in just 15 league appearances.
