Christopher Olivier: Austria–South Africa defender linked with Schalke 04 move from Stuttgart II
Austria–South Africa right-back Christopher Olivier of Stuttgart II is being linked with a move to Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04. The 20-year-old defender, under contract with Stuttgart’s second team until 30 June 2028, has emerged as a potential target as Schalke assess options on the right side of their back line ahead of the new campaign.
Olivier has been a regular in Germany’s 3. Liga, making 47 appearances and contributing one goal and five assists, experience that is thought to have brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the pyramid. Standing at 1.87m and preferring to operate on the right, he has been developed within the Stuttgart set-up since arriving from Austria as a youth player.
Stuttgart moved him up from their U19s to Stuttgart II in July 2024, and his progress since that promotion has coincided with his rise in market valuation to €1.2 million. With three seasons still remaining on his deal, any agreement is likely to require Schalke to negotiate a fee rather than explore a low-cost exit.
Born in Au on 31 January 2006 and eligible for both Austria and South Africa, Olivier’s performances in Germany’s youth and reserve structure have provided a steady platform for his senior career. For now, he remains part of Stuttgart II’s plans, with his long-term contract giving the 3. Liga club a strong position as speculation over Schalke’s interest continues.
