Chippa United appoint Brandon Truter as head coach

Brandon Truter has reportedly become the fifth coach to take charge of Chippa United this season following the club’s latest managerial shake-up ahead of their crucial final Premiership fixture against Kaizer Chiefs.

According to reports, the experienced tactician has already been introduced to the players as the Chilly Boys desperately attempt to avoid slipping into the relegation/play-off zone on the final day of the campaign.

Truter’s arrival adds another chapter to what has been a chaotic and unstable season for the Eastern Cape outfit, who have gone through a remarkable number of coaching changes in their fight for survival.

This season alone, Sinethemba Badela, Luc Eymael, Vusumuzi Vilakazi and most recently Hlanga Dikeni have all spent time in charge of the club.

Despite the numerous changes on the bench, Chippa United remain in a dangerous position heading into the final round of fixtures. The club currently sits fourth from bottom on 25 points, with their Betway Premiership status hanging by a thread.

Their survival is now heavily dependent not only on their own performance but also on results elsewhere involving Marumo Gallants and Orbit College, who are both sitting just behind them on 24 points.

A victory for either Marumo Gallants or Orbit College could see Chippa fall into 15th place, which would condemn them to the relegation/promotion play-offs.

The club hierarchy appears to have acted swiftly following Chippa’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Golden Arrows this past weekend — a result that reportedly triggered the decision to bring Truter on board immediately.

Now, all attention shifts to Saturday’s decisive clash against Kaizer Chiefs at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The encounter promises to be one of the most tense fixtures of the final day, with Chippa fighting to preserve their top-flight status while Chiefs look to end their campaign on a positive note.

Truter, who previously coached both Moroka Swallows and Sekhukhune United, now faces the enormous challenge of stabilising a side under immense pressure with virtually no time to prepare.

Known for his calm approach and tactical discipline, the 47-year-old will be hoping he can inspire an immediate response from the squad in what could be the most important match of Chippa United’s season.

With relegation fears intensifying and pressure mounting from all sides, Saturday’s showdown could determine whether Chippa United remain in the Betway Premiership or are forced into a nerve-racking battle for survival in the play-offs.
