Chiefs send four young players out on loan to boost first-team experience
Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed a series of loan moves for young players ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the club aiming to give members of its DStv Diski Challenge setup regular competitive football.
Two of the club’s rising players, 19-year-old right-back Sfiso Timba and defender Siyabonga Gumede, will spend the season with Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United. The deals are season-long and are intended to provide both players with valuable experience at senior level.
Timba and Gumede have come through the Chiefs system and are now set to continue their development away from Naturena. Their move to Gomora United will give them the opportunity to compete in the second tier while working towards a return to Amakhosi better prepared for first-team football.
Mkhawana and Kgosana join Real Natives
Forward Vicky Mkhawana has also completed a loan move for the new campaign. The 20-year-old will join newly rebranded Real Natives, where he will be joined by winger Ofentse Kgosana.
The move is designed to give Mkhawana and Kgosana important exposure to first-team football. Both players will now have the chance to gain experience in competitive senior matches as they continue to build their careers.
Chiefs have increasingly used loan placements to help young players bridge the gap between reserve-team football and the demands of senior competition. The latest moves involve players who have been part of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge group and are seeking more regular minutes.
Kabelo Nkgwesa, another highly regarded player from the reserve league, remains formally registered with the Chiefs first-team squad. The 19-year-old defensive left-back has already made his competitive debut for the club and is regarded as an option in that position.
However, Nkgwesa will have to wait before adding to his playing time after suffering an injury. His registration with the first-team setup remains unchanged, but his immediate progress has been delayed while he recovers.
More Chiefs loans being arranged
Kaizer Chiefs are also finalising loan moves for three more DStv Diski Challenge products. Naledi Hlongwane, Samkelo Zwane and Bontle Molefe are all expected to join Hope FC.
Those agreements are still being completed, but the intention is the same: to place the young players in a competitive environment where they can gain experience and develop through regular football.
The players leaving on loan will be hoping their spells away from Naturena help them return to Amakhosi sharper and better equipped for the demands of first-team football next season. For Chiefs, the moves offer their emerging talent the chance to continue progressing while gaining experience that is difficult to secure through reserve-league matches alone.
