Chibuike Ohizu stays at Sekhukhune United after second North Africa move collapses

Chibuike Ohizu will remain with Sekhukhune United after a proposed move to North Africa fell through for the second time.

The Nigerian striker had attracted interest from a Libyan club competing in CAF club competition, but negotiations failed to produce an agreement.

It is the latest unsuccessful attempt to secure a transfer away from Sekhukhune United for the 29-year-old, who is now expected to continue honouring his contract with the club.

Ohizu also came close to a move two years ago, when Algerian champions MC Alger expressed an interest in signing him. However, those discussions ended without an agreement after the Algerian club offered half the amount Sekhukhune United were seeking for the forward.

The latest talks with the unnamed Libyan side have similarly come to nothing, leaving Ohizu at the South African club.

He will play this season as a non-foreigner after being issued with his permanent residence permit. The completion of that documentation delayed his availability for selection at the start of the campaign.

As a result, Ohizu missed all seven of Sekhukhune United’s matches played in August. He became eligible to play in September.

Ohizu began his career at Future of Africa Academy in 2015 before moving to Leruma United. Jomo Cosmos signed him in 2018, and he spent two years with Ezenkosi before joining Sekhukhune United.

The striker has now been with Sekhukhune United for six years, although he spent last season on loan at Siwelele FC.
