Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson has taken a significant step in his recovery from a hamstring injury, but his return to competitive action remains weeks away.
Blues manager Enzo Maresca provided an update on the Senegalese striker’s condition ahead of their Europa Conference League tie against FC Copenhagen.
Positive signs but no imminent return
Jackson, who has been out of action since early February, has now resumed light training on the pitch.
While this marks a positive development, Maresca confirmed that the 22-year-old is still far from making a full return.
“Nico has started running outside, which is positive, but I don’t think there’s been any significant change in his condition,” Maresca said. “We’re still looking at a return after the international break.”
This timeline means Jackson is expected to remain unavailable until early April, ruling him out of Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures as well as Senegal’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Sudan and Togo.
A blow for Chelsea and Senegal
Jackson’s absence is a setback for Chelsea, who have struggled for consistency this season.
With Christopher Nkunku also dealing with fitness issues, Maresca has had to rely on Cole Palmer and other attacking options to carry the goal-scoring burden.
For Senegal, the news is equally disappointing. Coach Pape Thiaw had been hoping to count on Jackson for their World Cup qualifying campaign, where the Lions will face decisive encounters without one of their key attacking figures.
Despite the setback, Chelsea remain optimistic about Jackson’s long-term recovery.
The club’s medical staff will continue to monitor his progress, with the aim of reintegrating him into full training as soon as possible.
As Jackson edges closer to a return, Chelsea fans will be eager to see him back in action, while Senegal will hope to have their star striker available for future international commitments.
