Chelsea have officially announced their 28-man squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, with central defender Wesley Fofana notably excluded as he continues his rehabilitation from injury.
The French-born defender of Ivorian descent has been battling fitness issues throughout the past season and managed just 14 appearances across all competitions.
With a taxing calendar already behind the players and a demanding Premier League campaign ahead, the club has opted against rushing Fofana back, allowing him time to regain full fitness ahead of the new season under manager Enzo Maresca.
In his absence, Chelsea’s defensive options include newly signed Mamadou Sarr, who joins the likes of Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Malo Gusto, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella, Josh Acheampong, and Aaron Anselmino.
The squad will travel to Atlanta where they begin their campaign against Los Angeles FC on Monday.
The attacking contingent is led by Cole Palmer, Nicolas Jackson, Noni Madueke, and recent arrival Liam Delap, as Maresca looks to guide the Blues to their first Club World Cup title since 2021.
Also missing from the squad are Raheem Sterling, Joao Felix, and Axel Disasi, all of whom are expected to be moved on in the summer window.
Fofana, however, remains in Chelsea’s long-term plans once he completes his recovery.
