Nigerian legend Victor Moses joins Chelsea delegation on visit to Elegushi Palace
Former Nigerian international Victor Moses was part of a Chelsea delegation that paid a courtesy visit to the palace of Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi in Lagos, in a meeting that highlighted the growing relationship between international football institutions and traditional leadership in Nigeria.
The former Chelsea winger joined representatives of the Premier League club at the Elegushi Royal Palace, where they were warmly welcomed by the monarch and members of the palace community.
Discussions during the visit reportedly focused on football development, youth empowerment and strengthening the connection between major global football brands and local communities across Nigeria.
The visit also reflected Chelsea’s long-standing popularity in Nigeria, where the club continues to enjoy one of the largest fan bases in Africa.
Support for the London side has remained strong over the years, partly because of the success of several Nigerian players who have represented the club.
Victor Moses remains one of the most celebrated Nigerian footballers to have played for Chelsea. The former Super Eagles star enjoyed a successful period at Stamford Bridge and played an important role in the club’s Premier League-winning campaign under Antonio Conte during the 2016/2017 season.
He also helped Chelsea secure further silverware, including the FA Cup and the UEFA Europa League, achievements that strengthened his reputation among supporters in both England and Nigeria.
Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi praised the influence football continues to have on young people in the country and welcomed the collaboration between sports organisations and local institutions.
The monarch also stressed the importance of creating opportunities for Nigerian youths through sports and talent development initiatives, describing football as a powerful tool for social impact and inspiration.
The visit attracted attention from football fans and residents across Lagos, many of whom viewed the occasion as another sign of the close relationship between Nigeria and one of the world’s most widely supported football clubs.
Chelsea’s links with Nigerian football stretch back several years, with players such as Nigerian legend John Obi Mikel and former Super Eagles defender Celestine Babayaro also enjoying memorable careers at the club alongside Victor Moses.
