Chelsea 5-1 Bournemouth: Jordan Henderson scores twice in emphatic Stamford Bridge win

Chelsea responded to their pre-international break defeat in emphatic fashion by beating Bournemouth 5-1 at Stamford Bridge, with Jordan Henderson scoring his first goals for the club.

Henderson needed only 64 seconds to put the hosts ahead. After Cole Palmer drove forward and found him with a well-weighted pass, the midfielder struck first time and curled his finish into the net.

Chelsea added a second soon afterwards. Morgan Rogers received the ball inside the penalty area and bent his shot towards the far side of the goal, with a deflection off Antonio Silva taking it beyond former Blues goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

Bournemouth found it difficult to create a response, although Rayan went close to pulling one back before half-time. Emiliano Martinez reacted sharply to keep out the forward’s effort and ensure Chelsea went into the interval with a two-goal advantage.

The hosts continued their strong start to the second half when Pedro Neto went past Silva and delivered a cut-back for Joao Pedro. The forward made no mistake, powering his finish into the roof of the net to make it 3-0.

Bournemouth were handed a route back into the match when Evanilson turned the ball into the goal after Caicedo’s attempted clearance. The goal ended Evanilson’s wait of 16 matches for a Premier League goal.

Chelsea quickly re-established control, however. Joao Pedro judged his run perfectly to meet Pep Chavarria’s driven delivery and scored his second goal of the afternoon with a first-time finish.

Henderson completed the scoring with an outstanding direct free-kick, securing his second goal and removing any remaining doubt about the result.

The win brought Chelsea’s three-match wait for a Premier League victory to an end. Their previous league match had ended in a 3-0 defeat by Brentford before the international break.

It also extended Chelsea’s unbeaten run in competitive home matches to five games. That sequence includes four victories and one draw.

Chelsea moved up to fifth in the table, while Bournemouth stayed 17th. Marco Rose’s side are still waiting for their first league win under the manager and have now gone six Premier League matches without victory, drawing three and losing three.

Bournemouth’s next opportunity to recover comes at home to Sturm Graz in their first-ever European home fixture. Chelsea will seek to build on a performance that provided a timely boost after their disappointing result before the international break.
