CHEIKHOU KOUYATÉ: THE SENEGALESE HYPER MOTIVATED FOR THE STANDARD-ANDERLECHT CLASICO

Kouyate Anderlecht
As the Belgian championship advances into its decisive phase with the commencement of the playoffs this Friday, the standout fixture of the weekend in the Jupiler Pro League is undoubtedly the clasico between Standard and Anderlecht.

While Anderlecht appears to have experienced a resurgence of late, Cheikhou Kouyaté, the Senegalese international defender, remains cautious of the challenge posed by Standard Liège. Nevertheless, Kouyaté expresses his high motivation ahead of the encounter against Standard.

“We understand it won’t be an easy task. Our motivation levels are sky-high. There’s a newfound spirit within the team,” shared the Anderlecht center-back, highlighting his apprehension towards the strengths of Standard Liège. “The Liégeois boast formidable individuals such as Batshuayi, Ezekiel, and Mpoku. They pose threats both in breaking down defenses and with their pace. The key for us lies in collective defense and unity. While circumstances can rapidly change in the playoffs, it’s evident that Standard earned their top spot in the regular season. Personally, I rate them slightly higher than Bruges. Nonetheless, we still have an opportunity, and we’re determined to fight hard to salvage our season.”
