CFR Cluj linked with return for free-agent defender Sheriff Sinyan

Gambian-Norwegian defender Sheriff Sinyan, currently without a club, has been linked with a return to CFR Cluj in Romania’s SuperLiga.

The 30-year-old centre-back left CFR Cluj on 1 July 2026, having joined the Romanian club from Odd in January 2025 on a free transfer. A move back to Cluj would come shortly after his departure.

Sinyan made 26 SuperLiga appearances during his time in Romania and also featured 12 times in the championship group. He scored once in the latter competition and helped CFR Cluj win the Romanian Cup in the 2024-25 season.

The Oslo-born defender began his senior career with Lillestrøm before moving to Molde in 2020. He won the Norwegian Cup twice with Molde, in 2021 and 2023, and later spent time with Slavia Prague and Odd before joining CFR Cluj.

Sinyan’s market value is listed at €1.4m, although he is currently unattached following the end of his spell at CFR Cluj. The reported interest would therefore represent a possible return rather than a move from another team, with the Romanian club the side linked with his next destination.
