Celta Vigo put Guinean midfielder Ilaix Moriba up for sale
Celta de Vigo have reportedly put up Guinea international Ilaix Moriba on transfer ahead of the summer window.
The Spanish side are understood to be open to offers for the 23-year-old as they seek to balance their finances ahead of the new campaign. Although Moriba remains under contract until 2029, reports in Spain indicate that Celta Vigo would be willing to sanction a sale if their valuation of around €15-16 million is met.
The decision has already attracted interest from abroad, with Aston Villa FC emerging as one of the clubs closely monitoring the situation. The Premier League side are reportedly considering an approach as they continue strengthening their squad for another demanding season under manager Unai Emery.
Moriba’s future has once again become a major talking point after a campaign in which he showed glimpses of the immense talent that once made him one of the brightest young prospects in European football. The powerful midfielder impressed with his athleticism, ball-carrying ability, and versatility in central areas, qualities that continue to make him attractive to clubs across Europe.
Having previously come through the famed academy of FC Barcelona, Moriba was once viewed as a future star for both club and country. His rapid rise at Barcelona generated enormous expectations before his move away from the Catalan giants led to a more turbulent period in his career.
Since leaving Spain initially, the Guinean midfielder has struggled at times to find consistency and stability, with spells in Germany and other loan moves failing to fully reignite his development. However, his performances at Celta Vigo suggested that he may finally be rediscovering confidence and rhythm at the highest level.
Despite that progress, Celta’s financial priorities appear to have placed several players under consideration for potential exits, with Moriba now among those who could generate valuable income for the club. The reported asking price is viewed as attainable for Premier League sides, especially for a player who still possesses significant long-term potential.
For Aston Villa, the interest aligns with the club’s ambition to add greater depth and dynamism to midfield. Emery is believed to value energetic and technically gifted players capable of operating in multiple tactical systems, attributes Moriba has displayed throughout his career.
Villa’s participation in European competition next season is also expected to influence their transfer activity, with the club seeking players capable of handling the intensity of competing on several fronts. Moriba’s age, physical profile, and experience in major European leagues could make him an appealing option as the Midlands side continue building an ambitious project.
A move to England could also offer the Guinea international an important opportunity to relaunch his career on a bigger stage. Regular football in the Premier League would likely strengthen his standing with the Guinea national football team ahead of upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup cycle and the Africa Cup of Nations.
At this stage, no formal agreement has been reached, but speculation surrounding Moriba’s future is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as clubs begin accelerating their summer transfer plans.
Whether he remains in Spain or makes the leap to the Premier League, the coming transfer window could prove decisive for a player still aiming to fulfil the enormous promise that surrounded him at the start of his career.
