The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has announced the suspension of Moroccan international and Pyramids FC player Mohamed Cheibi’s six-match ban.
The decision follows an appeal made by Pyramids FC against the Egyptian Football Association’s (EFA) disciplinary action.
The EFA had imposed the six-match suspension on Cheibi after an altercation with Al Ahly’s Mohamed El-Shahat during a recent fixture.
The incident, which garnered significant attention, saw Cheibi being penalized after El-Shahat slapped him during the heated encounter between Al Ahly and Pyramids FC.
Following the EFA’s decision, Pyramids FC lodged an appeal with CAS, arguing that the punishment meted out to Cheibi was excessive and unjust.
The club demanded that the international sports body review the incident and deliver a fair judgment.
In their appeal, Pyramids FC highlighted that Cheibi’s reaction was in response to an unprovoked attack, emphasizing the need for equitable treatment of all parties involved.
The club’s statement expressed hope that CAS would deliver justice and overturn the decision, allowing Cheibi to continue participating in matches.
CAS has now suspended the EFA’s decision, allowing Cheibi to return to the pitch pending a final ruling.
