Cape Town City set to sign striker Abednego Mosiatlhaga

Cape Town City are set to unveil experienced striker Abednego Mosiatlhaga as their latest signing, with the Motsepe Foundation Championship club having agreed a free transfer for the 31-year-old.

The Citizens have been assessing Mosiatlhaga for several weeks, and his performances appear to have convinced head coach Andries Ulderink that he can strengthen the club’s attack.

The move would reunite Mosiatlhaga with Ulderink, who previously worked with the striker at Cape Town Spurs during their promotion campaign in the 2019/20 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

Mosiatlhaga enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Cape Town Spurs, scoring 17 goals and finishing as the division’s top scorer to win the Golden Boot. His form during that season made him one of the leading attacking players in the competition.

The forward, affectionately known as ‘Nego’, has continued to develop his career since that spell in South African football. He subsequently moved to Angola to join FC Bravos do Maquis, where he became an important member of the squad.

Mosiatlhaga played a major part in FC Bravos do Maquis qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup. He remained a key player for the Angolan club for almost three seasons and collected several Player of the Month awards during his time there.

Following his spell with FC Bravos do Maquis, Mosiatlhaga joined Wiliete SC before the start of last season. He is now expected to return to South Africa and complete a free transfer to Cape Town City.

The deal would give Ulderink the opportunity to work with a striker he already knows from their time together at Cape Town Spurs. Mosiatlhaga’s previous record in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, combined with his experience in Angola, is understood to have contributed to Cape Town City’s decision to bring him in.

Cape Town City are expected to formally unveil Mosiatlhaga as their newest player once the move is completed. The striker has been undergoing his assessment at the club for a number of weeks before the anticipated announcement.

The signing is being reported by iDiski Times, which says it has it on good authority that the Citizens are preparing to confirm the forward’s arrival.

He would join Cape Town City after a period in which he established himself overseas with FC Bravos do Maquis and Wiliete SC, while retaining a proven record in domestic competition from his time with Cape Town Spurs.
