AEL Limassol have submitted a formal loan offer for Cameroonian midfielder Jean Jules Sepp Mvondo as the player looks to revive his career following a disappointing season with Aris Thessaloniki.
Mvondo, 27, endured a frustrating 2023/24 campaign in the Greek Super League, making just five appearances for Aris. Once a highly promising talent, the midfielder is now seeking a fresh start, and the Cypriot First Division side is eager to provide that opportunity.
According to sources familiar with the situation, AEL Limassol have proposed a loan move for Mvondo with an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
Aris, open to offloading the player, are said to be considering the offer seriously and have already begun exploring potential replacements, including interest in fellow Cameroonian midfielder Martin Hongla.
Mvondo began his professional journey in Spain, featuring for the reserve teams of Rayo Vallecano and later Albacete, where his performances hinted at a bright future.
His most notable development came during a spell in Poland, where regular playing time allowed him to flourish and attract interest from clubs across Europe.
That promise, however, has not materialized in Greece, where he struggled to secure a regular spot in Aris Thessaloniki’s starting eleven.
Despite his recent struggles at club level, Mvondo remains a respected figure on the international scene. He has represented Cameroon at youth levels, including appearances in the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations, where he gained valuable experience on the continental stage.
His previous international performances reflect his ability to compete at a high level and remain a useful asset in midfield.
Currently valued at €350,000, Mvondo is known for his physicality, tactical awareness, and composure on the ball. His profile fits AEL Limassol’s ambitions as the club seeks to bolster its midfield options ahead of the upcoming season.
A move to Cyprus could offer Mvondo the consistent playing time he has been lacking and help him rediscover the form that once made him a standout in Poland.
The proposed loan-to-buy structure offers flexibility for both clubs and the player. For AEL Limassol, it’s an opportunity to evaluate the midfielder over the course of a season before committing to a long-term deal.
For Mvondo, it presents a fresh environment and the possibility of a more central role in a team looking to compete in the top half of the Cypriot league.
Whether or not the transfer materializes will depend on the final terms and the player’s willingness to make the move. For now, Mvondo remains under contract with Aris, but with the Greek side already considering his departure, a transfer appears increasingly likely.
Should the deal go through, it may offer the rejuvenation Mvondo’s career needs. After a turbulent period in Greece, the Cameroonian international could find in Cyprus the platform to rebuild his confidence and return to the level that once saw him tipped for greater things.
