Andre Onana is reportedly unsettled at Manchester United after being hit with a significant wage reduction this season, stemming from the club’s failure to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The Cameroonian shot-stopper, who joined United from Inter Milan last summer, was dropped for Sunday’s 4-1 defeat against Newcastle United—his 14th loss in a challenging debut season.
Altay Bayındır took his place in goal at St. James’ Park but also endured a difficult outing.
Onana’s recent form has drawn scrutiny, compounded by a social media spat with former teammate Nemanja Matić and an underwhelming performance against Lyon.
According to The Athletic, the 29-year-old was taken aback when he received his revised wages, adjusted due to United’s qualification only for the Europa League last season.
The unexpected salary drop reportedly led him to raise concerns directly with then-sporting director Dan Ashworth.
His appearance at training this week alongside his agent, Fali Ramadani of Lian Sports, has further fueled speculation about a possible exit.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano suggested on his YouTube channel that Onana may be considering a summer move, with renewed interest from Saudi Arabia.
“He had this dream to play for Manchester United,” Romano said. “Now I can say that the interest from the Saudi Pro League is still there for Onana.”
Onana had previously rejected Saudi advances to join the Red Devils, but with growing frustrations over his role and remuneration at Old Trafford, the option of a move to the Middle East remains active.
