CAF salutes Riyad Mahrez as Algeria captain brings international career to a close

The Confederation of African Football has paid a heartfelt tribute to Riyad Mahrez following his retirement from international football.

Mahrez, who captained the Algeria for several years, has called it a quit on international career after the sides’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32.

The experienced winger was in action when the North African outfit succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland on Friday morning.

Following his retirement from international football, the continental football governing body has expressed admiration and gratitude for the Algerian captain’s contribution to African football, highlighting both his achievements and lasting impact on the continent’s game.
