Bryan Cristante gives AS Roma half-time lead against Fenerbahce

AS Roma lead Fenerbahce 1-0 at half-time in their UEFA Champions League match at Chobani Stadyumu.

Fenerbahce made the more assertive start, encouraged by a passionate home crowd in Istanbul. They looked to set the tempo from the opening minutes and created early pressure as they tried to take control of the contest.

However, AS Roma’s defence held firm, with goalkeeper Mile Svilar remaining alert to deal with the first signs of danger. The visitors gradually settled into the match and became more composed as the opening half progressed.

That patience was rewarded in the 39th minute. Bryan Cristante broke the deadlock by beating Fenerbahce’s goalkeeper, completing a spell of pressure from the Italian side and putting AS Roma in front.

Fenerbahce had shown greater attacking intent early on, but AS Roma’s defensive organisation and tactical discipline limited the hosts’ opportunities. The visitors’ greater efficiency in front of goal ensured they went into the interval with the advantage.

Fenerbahce now need to improve their attacking effectiveness after the break if they are to overturn the deficit in front of their supporters.
