CAF reopens AFCON final case, requests new submission from Morocco
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to reopen the case related to the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after its Appeals Committee agreed to review an appeal concerning the match between Morocco and Senegal.
The continental governing body had earlier imposed sanctions on both teams following incidents that occurred during and after the final.
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation subsequently lodged an appeal against the disciplinary measures taken against the Moroccan side. The sanctions reportedly affected several players, including Achraf Hakimi and Ismael Saibari.
According to Moroccan newspaper Al-Botola, the Appeals Committee has now asked the Moroccan federation to present additional legal arguments to support its appeal. The request forms part of the renewed review of the final, which ended with Senegal claiming a 1–0 victory to secure the continental title.
The report further noted that the reassessment will also cover disciplinary rulings issued after the match, including sanctions directed at Moroccan players following the encounter.
The Appeals Committee is expected to continue examining the documents and evidence submitted before reaching a final decision during its next scheduled meeting.
