CAF confirms 47th Ordinary General Assembly to take place in Kinshasa on October 6

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that its 47th Ordinary General Assembly will be held on October 6, 2025, in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This announcement follows last year’s unexpected change of venue, when the 46th Assembly was relocated from Kinshasa to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, due to the outbreak of the Mpox epidemic.

The return to Kinshasa marks a significant moment for CAF, as the organisation reaffirms its commitment to the DRC after the disruption caused by the health crisis.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe will preside over the assembly, which is expected to bring together presidents of all 54 member associations, representatives from the six zonal unions, and senior football officials from across the globe.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is also anticipated to attend the gathering, highlighting the importance of the event on the global football calendar.

The meeting’s agenda, along with accompanying documents covering the confederation’s moral and financial reports, will be distributed to the member federations in the coming weeks.

The assembly will serve as a forum for evaluating the progress and future direction of football in Africa, with several key decisions likely to shape the sport’s development across the continent.

The General Assembly will be preceded by a series of preliminary meetings involving the six CAF zonal unions—COSAFA, WAFU A, WAFU B, UNIFAC, CECAFA, and UNAF.

These sessions are designed to prepare for the plenary meeting and will focus on a wide range of topics that reflect both the specific needs of the regions and broader continental challenges.

These preparatory discussions are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the formal assembly’s agenda, providing space for strategic alignment among regional bodies ahead of the larger continental dialogue.

Matters likely to be raised include infrastructure development, youth competitions, the ongoing improvement of women’s football, and governance reforms.

CAF’s return to Kinshasa is also symbolic, restoring confidence in the city’s capacity to host major continental gatherings after last year’s health-related disruption.

The Congolese capital, one of the most prominent urban centres in Central Africa, will now become the focal point of African football governance for the first time since the attempted 2024 hosting.

The annual Ordinary General Assembly is CAF’s highest decision-making body, playing a pivotal role in policy formulation and oversight.

The event is viewed as a platform for both reflection and planning, offering stakeholders an opportunity to assess progress while charting a path for future growth.

With African football navigating an increasingly competitive and commercially complex global landscape, the 47th Assembly in Kinshasa is expected to be particularly consequential.

Discussions will likely address the financial health of CAF, strategic partnerships, and preparation for upcoming continental and international tournaments.

As anticipation builds ahead of October, all eyes will be on Kinshasa, where the future of African football will once again be shaped by the continent’s leading voices.
