Burnley have expressed strong interest in Senegal international Krépin Diatta, submitting a loan proposal to AS Monaco as the Premier League side look to strengthen their attacking options.

The approach from Burnley comes just weeks after Brazilian Serie A club Cruzeiro were linked with the 26-year-old winger, whose future at the Stade Louis-II remains uncertain.

While the English club’s offer has been confirmed by sources close to the negotiations, Monaco are said to prefer a permanent sale rather than a temporary arrangement.

Diatta, who is contracted to Monaco until June 2026, is currently valued at around €7m. His annual salary of €3m (approximately 1.95 billion FCFA) is regarded as substantial, and any move away from Ligue 1 would likely require a club willing to match both his transfer fee and personal terms.

Since joining Monaco from Belgian side Club Brugge in January 2021, Diatta has endured a mixed spell in France’s top flight. Highly regarded for his pace, direct dribbling and versatility across the front line, the Senegalese forward has been hampered at times by injuries but continues to attract attention from clubs seeking attacking reinforcement.

Burnley, who have been active in exploring ways to bolster their squad ahead of a demanding season, view Diatta as a player capable of adding creativity and width.

The Lancashire club’s proposal for a loan deal reflects both their interest and a cautious approach, but Monaco’s preference for an outright transfer may complicate negotiations.

The French club, under pressure to manage their wage structure and squad depth, see a potential sale as the best outcome. Diatta remains a valued squad member, but with competition for places fierce, Monaco appear open to letting him depart if suitable terms are met.

For Diatta, the prospect of a move to the Premier League represents an enticing challenge. Known for his attacking dynamism and ability to stretch defences, the Senegalese winger could find in Burnley an opportunity to showcase his qualities on one of football’s biggest stages.

At 26, he is entering the prime years of his career and is keen to secure regular playing time at the highest level.

Interest from Cruzeiro, revealed earlier this month, highlighted the global appeal of the player. However, a switch to England would carry greater visibility and competitiveness, factors that may weigh heavily in both his and Monaco’s decision-making.

Monaco, meanwhile, are carefully considering their options. With Diatta tied down until 2026, they are under no immediate financial pressure to sell but remain open to offers that align with their valuation. The club’s stance suggests that unless Burnley return with a revised bid for a permanent transfer, the negotiations may stall.

For now, Diatta’s future hangs in the balance, with both Burnley and Monaco holding firm positions. The coming weeks will determine whether the Senegal international makes the switch to the Premier League, stays to fight for his place in Ligue 1, or explores alternatives elsewhere.

What remains certain is that Krépin Diatta, valued for his pace and attacking flair, will not be short of suitors as the transfer window progresses.
