Botswana goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko set to leave Siwelele FC after four months

Botswana international goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko is negotiating his departure from Siwelele FC only four months into a two-year contract.

The 31-year-old joined the club in June, when Soccer Laduma first reported that the deal had been completed. However, he is now expected to leave after a short spell in which he made only three league appearances.

A source familiar with the situation said the change in coaching staff had contributed to Phoko’s impending exit.

“He was signed by Lehlohonolo Seema, so when Seema left his position as head coach, it made things difficult for Phoko. It’s over for him there,” the source said.

Phoko began his time at Siwelele in the starting line-up and played in the club’s opening three league matches. Those appearances all came in August, against TS Galaxy, Milford and AmaZulu.

He featured in the 2-2 draw with TS Galaxy, the 1-0 defeat by Milford and the 2-0 loss to AmaZulu. After conceding five goals across those matches, he was not selected again.

The circumstances surrounding his departure have been described as a “mutual” decision. An official announcement is expected to follow.

Soccer Laduma said it had attempted to obtain responses from both Phoko and Siwelele FC but received no answer.
