Botev Plovdiv have strengthened their attacking ranks with the acquisition of Danish-born Nigerian striker Ifenna Dorgu, the Bulgarian First League club confirming the move through official channels as they continue to reshape their squad.

The 19-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a long-term contract after impressing during a trial period, bringing clarity to his future following his departure from Danish side HB Køge in January.

Before his spell in Denmark, Dorgu developed within Genoa’s youth system, where he delivered nine goals and four assists across 37 appearances, underlining his promise as an emerging forward in European football.

Dorgu also arrives with a notable footballing background as the younger brother of Manchester United left-back Patrick Dorgu, who represents Denmark at senior international level.

His new environment at Botev places him alongside a number of players with Nigerian heritage, including Super Eagles forward Samuel Kalu.

The squad further includes Chimezie Williams and Bryan Hein, while Emmanuel John and Shola Adelani are currently out on loan at Spartak Varna and Spartak Pleven respectively, highlighting the club’s diverse recruitment profile.

Botev Plovdiv have already completed all required registration procedures, making the striker eligible for selection. He is expected to be named in the squad for Saturday’s league fixture against Cherno More, where he could be handed an early opportunity to feature.

The move represents a fresh step in Dorgu’s development as he seeks consistent senior football after progressing through youth systems in Italy and Denmark.

Botev Plovdiv are expected to gradually integrate the forward into their attacking rotation, with coaching staff viewing his pace and movement as key assets.

The club’s recruitment strategy has increasingly leaned on young talent with European experience, and Dorgu’s arrival aligns with that direction as they aim to strengthen their squad depth for the remainder of the season.
