Boosted prize pool as Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania prepare for CHAN 2024
The 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), postponed to next year, is set to see a boost in prize money for participating nations.
This exciting news comes amidst ongoing preparations by co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe revealed the prize money increase during a press conference in Nairobi, Kenya, following an executive committee meeting on Monday.
While the exact figures remain undisclosed, the announcement suggests a significant improvement compared to the previous edition.
For reference, champions Senegal received USD2 million in 2022, marking a 60% increase from the USD1.25 million awarded to Morocco in 2020.
This upward trend is likely to continue in 2024, incentivizing teams and potentially elevating the overall competition.
While Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania get to work on stadium improvements, aspiring participants can set their sights on the qualifying rounds.
The first round of CHAN 2024 qualifiers will kick off on the weekend of October 25-27, 2024.
The tournament itself is scheduled for February 1-28, 2025, marking the 8th edition of the championship.
National teams featuring players exclusively based in Africa will compete for continental glory.
