The biggest surprise of the group stage came with the early exit of Tunisian side Esperance, paving the way for Ghanaian outfit Dreams FC to advance.
Esperance won three out of their first four group-stage matches and needed to avoid defeat in their last two matches to secure qualification.
However, they suffered a loss in one and drew the other, leading to their elimination from the tournament.
