BEST AFRICAN SPORTSWOMAN 2013! VOTE!
The year 2013 witnessed remarkable achievements in African sports, spanning football, athletics, basketball, and cycling. The Africa Top Sports (ATS) editorial staff in Lomé, along with correspondents across different regions of the continent, has nominated athletes for the Africa Top Sports.com Awards 2013. The nominees for Sportswoman of the Year 2013 include:
- Tirunesh Dibaba (Athletics, Ethiopia): Won her fifth world championship title in 5000m.
- Isabelle Sambou (Wrestling, Senegal): Olympic bronze medalist and African champion in Olympic wrestling.
- Naceesela Mauricio (Basketball, Angola): Captain of Angola’s basketball team, leading the team to victory in the 2013 Afrobasket.
- Blessing Okagbare (Athletics, Nigeria): Vice-world champion in long jump and holder of the African record for the 100m.
- Meseret Defar (Athletics, Ethiopia): World champion in the 5000m at the World Championships in Moscow.
- Nadir Manuel (Basketball, Angola): Played a key role in Angola’s victory in the 2013 women’s Afrobasket.
- Murielle Ahouré (Athletics, Côte d’Ivoire): Won two silver medals in the 100m and 200m at the World Championships.
- Aya Traoré (Basketball, Senegal): Captain of the Senegal women’s basketball team.
- Genoveva Añonma (Football, Equatorial Guinea): Contributed to Equatorial Guinea’s success in African women’s football.
- Amantle Montsho (Athletics, Botswana): Missed gold in the women’s 400m final at the World Championships.
