Ghanaian midfielder Bernard Mensah is on the verge of joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Riyadh, following an agreement in principle with the capital club. The 29-year-old, who played for Al-Taï last season, is expected to remain in Saudi Arabia’s top division, barring any last-minute changes.

Mensah, who scored 14 goals and provided two assists in 31 appearances last season, has been a standout performer for Al-Taï.

Despite his efforts, the club was relegated after finishing second-to-last in the 2023-2024 season.

However, Mensah’s impressive form has ensured his place in the Saudi Pro League, with Al-Riyadh keen to secure his services.

Al-Riyadh’s head coach, Sabri Lamouchi, played a crucial role in pursuing Mensah’s transfer. Recognizing the Ghanaian international’s talent and experience, Lamouchi specifically requested that the club’s management prioritize signing Mensah.

The Saudi Pro League’s recruitment committee has since approved all aspects of the contract, bringing the deal close to completion.

The finalization of Mensah’s transfer to Al-Riyadh now hinges on the successful completion of his medical examination.

Once this is done, the club is expected to make an official announcement confirming his arrival.

Mensah’s career has seen him play for several clubs across Europe and the Middle East.

He has had stints with Kayserispor, Besiktas, and Kasimpasa in Turkey, Vitória Guimarães in Portugal, and Getafe in Spain, before moving to Saudi Arabia with Al-Taï.

Despite his extensive club career, Mensah’s last appearance for the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars, was in October 2020 during a friendly match against Mali.

With Al-Riyadh’s upcoming season fast approaching, Mensah’s addition to the squad is anticipated to bring both skill and experience to their midfield.

The club will be looking to make a strong impact in the Saudi Pro League, and Mensah’s proven track record could be a key factor in their success.

As the final details of the transfer are ironed out, Al-Riyadh fans will be eagerly awaiting the official confirmation of Mensah’s signing, hopeful that the Ghanaian will play a pivotal role in the club’s ambitions for the 2024-2025 season.
