Frédéric Gounongbe, the Belgian-Beninese striker, has become the first signing for Westerlo as they prepare for their return to the first division next season. The Belgian club announced the transfer of the free agent from RWDM Brussels, with whom he played until the end of his contract.
Gounongbe chose to move to Westerlo due to financial issues at RWDM Brussels, which led to the club’s relegation to the third division. The striker has signed a contract with Westerlo that will keep him at the club until June 2016.
Previously, Gounongbe played for Woluwé Zaventem before joining Zulte Waregem in 2012. However, he was loaned out to RWDM Brussels by Zulte Waregem, where he found his form and became a key player for the club.
This season, Gounongbe has scored 11 goals for RWDM Brussels, playing a significant role in the team’s impressive eighth-place finish in the final standings.
