Former TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic says he rejected an offer from Sekhukhune United because the club would not allow him to bring at least one member of his own coaching staff.
Beganovic had discussions with Sekhukhune before the season began, after leaving TS Galaxy in April following a difficult spell with the Rockets. He was also linked with several other opportunities while considering his next managerial role.
The Bosnian coach met Sekhukhune to discuss taking charge, but the negotiations ended without an agreement when the club was unable to meet his request regarding the composition of his technical team.
“Sekhukhune sent me an offer and I went to speak with them before I spoke with Golden Arrows. The only issue was that they did not allow me to bring at least one assistant coach with me,” Beganovic told the Siya crew.
“That was the only reason I didn’t accept the job. It is difficult to be in another country alone without somebody you trust. You need somebody who you can speak to, someone you are comfortable with. It is not only about football.”
Beganovic said having a trusted member of staff alongside him was especially important because of his personal approach to coaching.
“I am a very emotional person, and I need somebody close to me who I can talk to all the time about football, what we can do and how we can improve,” he said.
The former TS Galaxy manager tried to find a solution with Sekhukhune, but the club would not agree to his terms.
“I tried to arrange that, but in the end the club did not want to accept it. So, the job was finished and we could not agree,” he said.
“I said thank you for the opportunity because I appreciated everything, but it was not for me if I could not work with at least one person from my staff.”
Sekhukhune eventually appointed Cedric Kaze, who took over at the beginning of the season before leaving the club last month.
Beganovic remains available for a new opportunity following his departure from TS Galaxy and has continued to be linked with roles in the Betway Premiership.
