Bayern Munich score five after half-time as Como make European history

Bayern Munich overcame the threat of Bodø/Glimt with a 5-0 victory in their Champions League league-phase opener, scoring all five goals after half-time at the Allianz Arena.

The match was goalless at the break, but Jamal Musiala put Bayern ahead two minutes into the second half. Harry Kane doubled their lead in the 61st minute before Alphonso Davies added a third in the 77th.

Michael Olise completed the rout with two powerful strikes in the 83rd minute and second-half stoppage time. Kane has now scored in eight consecutive matches.

Musiala made his first start of the season after suffering two fainting episodes during two pre-season friendlies within four days.

Bayern avoided an upset against Bodø/Glimt, who beat Manchester City 3-2 and Atletico Madrid 2-1 in last season’s league phase.

Bayern Munich’s remaining fixtures are Arsenal (home), Atletico Madrid (away), Real Betis (home), Manchester United (away), Lille (away), Slovan Bratislava (home) and Viking (away). Bodø/Glimt will face Atletico Madrid (home), Dortmund (home), Club Brugge (away), Lille (home), Napoli (away), LASK (home) and Lens (away).

Como make European debut in style

Como celebrated their first ever European appearance with a 4-1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia in Italy.

Martin Baturina opened the scoring for Como after 15 minutes and Anastasios Douvikas made it 2-0 in the 38th minute.

Assane Diao added a third in the 54th minute, while Maximiliano Perrone scored Como’s fourth in the 90th. RB Leipzig’s only response came from Andrija Maksimovic in the 58th minute.

Como are playing in Europe for the first time after finishing fourth in Serie A last season under Cesc Fabregas.

Como’s upcoming opponents are Paris Saint-Germain (home), Barcelona (away), Manchester United (home), Real Betis (away), Feyenoord (away), AEK Athens (home) and Lens (away). RB Leipzig will meet Manchester City (home), Real Madrid (away), PSV Eindhoven (home), Manchester United (away), Shakhtar Donetsk (home), Feyenoord (away) and Lens (home).

Lens snatch dramatic victory

Lens scored twice in stoppage time to beat Slavia Prague 3-2 in the Czech Republic.

Daniel Streda put Slavia ahead in the 51st minute before Abdallah Sima levelled for Lens in the 73rd. Streda appeared to have restored the home side’s advantage in the 88th minute.

However, Florian Thauvin equalised for Lens in the first minute of added time, and team-mate Ruben Aguilar completed the comeback three minutes into stoppage time.

Slavia Prague will play Arsenal (home), Bayern Munich (away), Aston Villa (home), Porto (away), Villarreal (home), Fenerbahce (away) and Qarabag (away). Lens face Manchester City (home), Liverpool (away), Sporting Lisbon (home), Club Brugge (away), Bodø/Glimt (home), RB Leipzig (away) and Como (home).

The Champions League league phase features 36 teams for a third successive season. Each club plays eight matches, including four at home and four away.

The top eight teams qualify directly for the last 16. Clubs finishing ninth to 16th enter play-offs against teams placed 17th to 24th, with the eight winners completing the last-16 line-up. After the draw, the teams in ninth and 10th will face one of those placed 23rd or 24th, with the same system applying to the remaining positions.
