Bayern Munich have reportedly opened discussions to sign France defender of Malian descent Ibrahima Konate as they look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next summer.

According to The Mirror, the German champions have identified the France international of Guinean descent as a concrete target, with the player potentially available on a free transfer if he does not extend his contract at Anfield.

In Germany, BILD reporter Tobi Altschäffl confirmed on the Bayern-Insider podcast that Bayern officials, including Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, have already initiated contact with Konaté’s agent, Konrad Heß. English outlets have since echoed these reports, reinforcing Bayern’s strong interest.

Konaté, 26, has also drawn attention from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, but Bayern see him as a potential successor to Dayot Upamecano, whose contract renewal remains unresolved.

Upamecano’s current deal runs until 2026, though he too has been linked with Real Madrid.

Bayern are said to be closely monitoring Liverpool’s stance on Konaté’s future and are ready to act if the Premier League side decide against offering him a new deal.
