Barcelona weigh Javi Guerra move as Valencia face a crucial summer countdown

Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra could become the subject of a formal offer from Barcelona in the coming days, with the Catalan club monitoring the Spain international and his release clause set to rise from €40m to €60m on Saturday, 1 August.

The potential move comes as Valencia prepare to enter August with only three signings completed, alongside the return of Guido, and several positions still needing reinforcement. That situation has left manager Jorlay facing a demanding challenge before the new season begins.

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona have been following Guerra for some time. Their interest has become more visible in recent days at St George’s Park in England, where the two teams have been training together.

Guerra was seen greeting several Barcelona players with whom he has shared the Spain squad. Those encounters have added to speculation that the 22-year-old could be considered for a move to the Catalan club before the transfer window closes.

Barcelona may now be preparing to make an official approach for the midfielder. The club is reassessing its options after potentially ruling out a deal for Argentina striker Julian Alvarez.

Although Alvarez and Guerra play in different positions, a lower-than-expected fee for the striker could give Barcelona additional financial flexibility. That would allow the club to explore an attempt to sign Valencia’s midfield star.

Release clause set to increase

Valencia’s officials are understood to remain calm despite Barcelona’s interest. Their confidence is based largely on the change to Guerra’s contract, with his release clause due to increase from €40m to €60m from Saturday.

That figure is considered unlikely to be within the reach of Barcelona, or of another club, given the current financial situation. However, the position could change if Valencia receive a formal proposal.

The decision of Singaporean owner Peter Lim would be difficult to predict if a significant offer arrived, despite assurances from both Valencia and the player that Guerra will remain at Mestalla this season. The campaign is expected to be his final one with the club.

For now, Valencia are also working against time to strengthen their squad. Alongside the three completed deals and Guido’s return, the club still have vacancies at right-back, as reserve goalkeeper and on the wing.

Those gaps increase the pressure on Jorlay as he prepares the team for the new campaign, while uncertainty over Guerra’s future adds another complication to Valencia’s planning.

The coming days could therefore prove decisive. Guerra may stay at Valencia for the last season of his current spell, or a move to Barcelona could emerge and reshape the summer transfer picture in La Liga.
