Barcelona futsal dominance recognised as five players voted best in Spain

Barcelona have underlined their supremacy in Spanish futsal after five of their players were voted the best in their positions by the Asociacion de Jugadores de Futbol Sala (AJFS), just days after the club clinched the league title.

The AJFS, which represents professional futsal players in Spain, announced the awards following a vote by top-flight players, with Barcelona sweeping all five positional categories. Didac Plana was named best goalkeeper, Antonio Perez best defender, Luciano Gauna best right winger, Matheus best left winger and Pito best pivot.

The clean sweep of individual honours comes on the back of a dominant domestic campaign in which Barcelona finished top of the regular-season standings and then went on to secure the championship through the play-offs.

Decisive vote margins

In the defender category, Antonio Perez came out on top ahead of his Barcelona team-mate Joao Victor and ElPozo Murcia player Gadeia.

Luciano Gauna led the voting for right winger, finishing above fellow Barcelona player Toure and Inter Movistar’s Javi Minguez.

On the left flank, Matheus collected more votes than Barcelona colleague Eric Martel and ElPozo Murcia’s Marcel.

Pito completed Barcelona’s sweep by winning the pivot award, finishing ahead of Denner of ElPozo Murcia and Daniil of Manzanares.

The voting results highlight the extent to which Barcelona’s squad has set the standard in Spain this season, with players from the club dominating shortlists across the court.

Domestic dominance

These individual prizes add another layer to a season already marked by Barcelona’s control of the domestic scene.

The Catalan side ended the regular season in first place, then converted that advantage into the league title with a strong run through the knockout stages, reinforcing their status as the benchmark team in Spanish futsal.

Coaches and officials at rival clubs have repeatedly pointed to Barcelona’s depth and quality, and the AJFS vote among top-flight professionals has now provided further confirmation from within the dressing rooms of La Liga’s futsal sides.

Preparation for title defence

Attention at Barcelona now turns to defending the crown next season, with planning already in place for the new campaign.

The futsal squad are scheduled to report back on 3 August for the start of pre-season, beginning with the usual round of medical tests.

Once those examinations are completed, the team will travel to Encamp in Andorra for their traditional training camp, which will serve as the main phase of preparation as Barcelona look to maintain their grip on domestic competitions.

The Andorra camp is a regular feature of Barcelona’s build-up, offering controlled conditions and focused sessions as the coaching staff seek to refine fitness levels, integrate any tactical tweaks and ensure the squad are ready to sustain the high standards that have brought both collective silverware and a haul of individual awards.
