Barcelona explore Pedro Porro deal as defensive reinforcements become priority

Barcelona are considering a move for Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro, with club president Joan Laporta keen to strengthen the defence of Hansi Flick’s side, according to reports in Spain.

The 27-year-old has emerged as a potential target after the podcast Barca Reservat, presented by Barcelona experts Xavi Campos and Laia Tudel, reported that the Catalan club were examining the possibility of signing him.

Porro’s appeal lies in his ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch. Barcelona are also understood to be considering the relationship he has developed with Spain team-mate Lamine Yamal, having played alongside him at the World Cup.

Reports suggest Porro’s arrival could give Barcelona’s right flank greater strength, particularly because of the understanding he and Yamal have shown during their time together with the national team.

Tottenham Hotspur’s current position in the Premier League could also make a departure possible. The club are 14th in the English top flight, although no decision has been made on the defender’s future.

Financial conditions could prove decisive

Porro joined Tottenham Hotspur from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth 40m euros. His current market value is estimated at about 45m euros, according to Transfermarkt.

However, Barcelona would face financial obstacles in completing the proposed move. The club would need to sell players during the winter transfer window to create the resources required to sign the Spain defender.

Sources within Barcelona indicate that French defender Jules Kounde could be among those considered for a departure. The club are reviewing their defensive options after a series of significant absences caused by injuries to Eric Garcia, Xavi Espart, Andreas Christensen and Kounde.

Barcelona’s possible move for Porro comes after their defeat by Real Madrid in El Clasico. That result was the Catalan club’s first loss of the season.

The fixture information listed alongside the reports shows Tottenham Hotspur facing Crystal Palace in the Premier League on 31 October 2026. Barcelona are listed to play Deportivo Alaves in La Liga on the same date.
