Barcelona blocks Ansu Fati's Monaco transfer

Ansu Fati’s summer transfer to AS Monaco faces new complications as Barcelona hesitates to let go of full control over the player’s future.

According to Mundo Deportivo, significant roadblocks have emerged in finalizing Fati’s permanent move to the French club.

Monaco has agreed to activate its €11 million purchase option for the forward, yet Barcelona executives are pushing hard to include a future buyback clause instead. The club fears heavy criticism if Fati, a La Masia graduate, fulfills his immense potential at another European team.

Fati marked his debut for Monaco on 18 September 2025 in a UEFA Champions League league phase match against Club Brugge, scoring a consolation goal in the 90+2nd minute during a 4-1 loss, demonstrating his clinical finishing despite the team’s defensive struggles.

Although head coach Hansi Flick does not see Fati as part of his current plans, the player’s contract runs until 2028. Monaco must trigger the clause by June 30, but Barcelona is delaying negotiations.

The strategic hold could also help Barcelona test whether a higher offer arrives from clubs like Sevilla. This tug-of-war leaves Fati’s future uncertain as both clubs weigh their financial and sporting interests.
