Barcelona and Roony Bardghji prepare for a move to unlock first-team opportunities

Roony Bardghji is expected to leave Barcelona in the final weeks of the summer transfer window after the player and the club agreed to look for a new destination where he can play more regularly.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Swedish winger will move on in search of increased first-team minutes, with opportunities at Barcelona likely to be limited because of the competition for places in Hansi Flick’s squad.

Barcelona are nevertheless determined to retain control over the 19-year-old’s future. The club could consider a loan deal, an agreement containing provisions that would allow them to bring him back, or a transfer that enables them to keep a percentage of his future sale.

That approach reflects Barcelona’s continued belief in Bardghji’s ability and potential, despite the possibility of his departure before the summer window closes.

The player, who has Syrian heritage, impressed during a recent 45-minute appearance against Birmingham City. Barcelona ultimately lost the friendly on penalties after the match finished 2-2, but Bardghji made a notable impact after coming on in the second half.

His introduction coincided with Barcelona’s strongest attacking spell of the game, according to Spanish newspaper AS. Bardghji added pace and skill to the Catalan side and showed composure in the final third as he looked to influence the result.

During his time on the pitch, he registered two shots on target and completed 31 of 36 passes, giving him a passing accuracy of 87%. He also completed two dribbles and recovered possession three times.

The performance suggested Bardghji remains capable of making an impression at senior level, but it is not expected to alter Barcelona’s decision to explore a move. The Swedish forward faces significant competition in his position, particularly following the arrival of Germany international Karim Adeyemi this summer.

Barcelona’s preference is therefore to find a solution that gives Bardghji the regular football he wants while protecting the club’s long-term interest in a player they still regard as possessing considerable promise. A temporary move could provide that opportunity, although a permanent transfer with safeguards for Barcelona has also been left open as a possibility.

Bardghji’s appearance against Birmingham offered a reminder of why Barcelona remain keen to preserve a relationship with him. However, the club must also balance that faith in his development with the immediate need for him to play consistently, something that may prove difficult at Camp Nou under Flick.
