Morocco midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi vows to return stronger after World Cup exit
Ayyoub Bouaddi has promised Morocco will come back stronger after their elimination from the 2026 World Cup, insisting the Atlas Lions must learn from their disappointment and remain proud of their journey.
The 18-year-old midfielder shared a message with Moroccan supporters following the team’s 2-0 quarter-final defeat by France, a result that ended their hopes of reaching the semi-finals for the second consecutive World Cup.
Bouaddi, who emerged as one of Morocco’s important players during the tournament, expressed his disappointment after the loss but highlighted the progress made by the national team and the lessons gained from their campaign.
The Lille midfielder had become a key figure in Mohamed Ouahbi’s side before the World Cup, quickly establishing himself as a regular starter in midfield alongside Neil El Aynaoui. His performances saw him move ahead of experienced midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in the pecking order.
Following the defeat against France, Bouaddi addressed fans through his official X account, thanking them for their support while reaffirming his commitment to representing Morocco.
“We are sad, disappointed, and frustrated because we wanted to win, we wanted to go as far as possible. We hoped to make the Moroccan people as proud as possible. These are things that are built up.
You don’t become a world champion overnight. I am very proud to have chosen Morocco. I have always said that it is a choice of the heart and that I am very proud to represent Morocco no matter what happens.
We must leave with our heads held high. We must remain proud of our journey. Today we have learned and we will come back stronger for the next competitions, God willing.”
Bouaddi also opened his message by acknowledging the emotions within the squad after the disappointing result.
“We are sad, we have learned, and we will come back stronger.”
The teenager’s rise has provided encouragement for Morocco’s future, with the midfielder now expected to play an important role in the team’s next generation.
The Atlas Lions will soon turn their attention towards their next international challenge, with qualifying matches for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations beginning in September.
Looking further ahead, Bouaddi and his teammates will also have another major opportunity on the global stage when the 2030 World Cup takes place in Morocco, Spain and Portugal.
Despite falling short against France, Bouaddi believes the experience gained from the 2026 tournament will help Morocco continue developing as they prepare for future competitions.
