Richarlison left out of Tottenham squad as transfer exit edges closer

Richarlison’s Tottenham future has become increasingly uncertain after the Brazil forward was omitted from the club’s 25-man Premier League squad.

The 29-year-old remains contracted to Tottenham, but his exclusion follows public comments in which he said he would no longer allow other people to decide what happens to his career.

Richarlison expressed his frustration on social media earlier this week, making clear that he intended to take control of his own future after what he described as a difficult period.

“After everything I’ve been through in the last few years, I’ve decided that never again will anyone decide my future for me,” Richarlison said.

“I went through a lot of bad things, and almost all of them happened because decisions were made by other people. Pressure, threats, retaliation – none of that scares me. I’ve been through far worse, believe me.”

The forward also said he had consistently considered Tottenham’s interests when discussing the possibility of a move away from the club.

“I’ve always made it clear, every time I had the chance, that leaving for another club would only happen if it was also good for the club,” he said.

“If it wasn’t, I would never accept it. Just like I didn’t accept it when everything was going badly, and they needed me. I stayed and gave everything.”

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi added to the uncertainty surrounding the player after Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Newcastle. De Zerbi said Richarlison had “said too many times he wants to leave”.

A possible return to Everton, where Richarlison spent four seasons before moving to Tottenham in 2022, had been discussed. However, the move did not happen before the Premier League transfer deadline.

The Brazilian’s situation could still be resolved because transfer windows in some other countries remain open. Turkish club Trabzonspor have been linked with a move for Richarlison, and reports claim the player has agreed personal terms with the club.

Richarlison joined Tottenham four years ago but has found it difficult to establish himself as a regular first-choice player. He scored 12 goals during the 2025/26 season, when Spurs narrowly avoided relegation.

His omission from the Premier League squad does not end his Tottenham contract, but it represents a significant indication that his time in north London may be nearing its conclusion.

Richarlison said he hoped Tottenham would handle the situation with the same consideration he had shown the club.

“I stayed and gave everything,” Richarlison said. “So, I hope they treat my situation with the same respect I’ve always shown Spurs and everyone who worked with me during this period.”

Tottenham’s next Premier League fixture is away against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday.
