Moroccan forward Ashraf Bin Sharqi found himself at the center of yet another high-profile Egyptian League walkover, this time with Al Ahly.
The club refused to take the field against Zamalek on Tuesday night in the first round of the coronation stage.
Bin Sharqi, who signed for Al Ahly on a free transfer last winter after leaving Qatari side Al Rayyan, has now witnessed two such incidents from both sides of the rivalry.
Back in 2020, he was with Zamalek when they failed to show up for a league clash against Al Ahly, just days after winning the Egyptian Super Cup. Zamalek had requested a postponement, citing the fallout from disciplinary actions against former player Imam Ashour.
Now, Al Ahly is weighing a complete boycott of the league, while Zamalek is pressing football authorities to award them points for their rivals’ no-show. As reported by Africasoccer.com, Al Ahly could face serious repercussions if they proceed with their withdrawal.
