Asante Kotoko SC has confirmed their return to the iconic Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi after extensive renovations. The stadium, which had been temporarily closed for international football events due to concerns raised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) about its playing surface, is now ready to host matches once again.
For the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, the Porcupine Warriors had been playing their home games at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi.
This relocation, while necessary, proved to be a costly endeavor for the club, as they faced additional financial pressures.
However, following substantial upgrades to Baba Yara Stadium, including improvements to the playing surface and facilities, Kotoko will now return to their home ground.
The decision to reopen Baba Yara Stadium came after successful negotiations between the club and the National Sports Authority (NSA), allowing Asante Kotoko to resume playing at the renovated venue.
This return will not only provide the team with a sense of familiarity but also help reduce the operational costs associated with using Obuasi as a temporary venue.
Asante Kotoko’s first match back at Baba Yara Stadium will take place on Sunday, December 1, 2024, against Future Stars in the round of 64 of the MTN FA Cup.
The club and its supporters are eagerly anticipating the return to their iconic stadium, which holds significant importance for the team’s identity and their continued success in domestic competitions.
