Artur De Almeida E Silva

Artur de Almeida e Silva, the 51-year-old president of the Angolan Football Federation (FAF), stands as a significant figure in Angolan sports. Recognized as the fourth president of the FAF by the institution in Luanda, his journey is a blend of business acumen and a passion for football. This profile delves into the life and career of a man who has become a cornerstone of Angolan football.

Born on June 25, 1963, in Amboim – Gabela, Kwanza-Sul province, Almeida e Silva’s early life was steeped in football. He began his football journey in the Prenda neighborhood, where he played for Bela Vista Futebol Clube.

His talent soon took him to Atlético Sport Aviaçao (ASA) from 1989 to 1991, and he later became the top scorer for NOCAL sports club in the 1998-1999 season.

After retiring from professional play, Almeida e Silva transitioned to sports management.

He presided over Clube Vitória do Sambizanga for 13 years and served as the FAF vice-president in charge of youth football.

As a FIFA-affiliated sports agent, he represented notable athletes, including Zeca Langa and Divaldo Arrais.

Parallel to his sports career, Almeida e Silva established himself in the business world.

He was a partner in Arosfram, one of the leading Angolan companies trading essential goods in the 1990s. Additionally, he owns Seres Transportes, Palama Construcões, and Real Sports.

The latter company, specializing in organizing sports events, has orchestrated several national and international tournaments, such as the prestigious 1st International Beach Football Tournament “Angola Beach Soccer”.

Almeida e Silva’s involvement in football administration peaked in 2016 when he was elected president of the Angolan Football Federation, succeeding Justino Fernandes.

His re-election in 2020 with 70 votes underscored his influential position. Under his leadership, the FAF has focused on organizing competitions, developing infrastructure, nurturing young talent, and enhancing communication and sports marketing.

He has consistently voiced his commitment to elevating Angolan football on both national and international stages.

In addition to his role in Angola, Almeida e Silva’s influence extends to Southern Africa.

In May 2022, he was elected President of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA), a position he will hold until 2026.

This role highlights his expertise and recognition beyond Angolan borders.

Artur de Almeida e Silva’s life is a testament to his dedication to football and his country. From his early days as a player to his current role as a key administrator, his efforts continue to shape the future of football in Angola and Southern Africa.

His journey reflects not only his personal achievements but also his enduring impact on the sport he loves.
